"Russian veto" deepens divisions and strengthens military strike against Syria

The first vote was on the US draft resolution, which called for the creation of an "independent UN investigation mechanism" to investigate the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
The draft resolution was backed by 12 nations and opposed by Russia and Bolivia, while China abstained.
To adopt any resolution in the Security Council, it must have at least nine votes, provided that none of the five permanent members (the United States, Russia, China, France and Britain) vetoed it, which Russia did with the knockout of the American project.
The veto is the twelfth veto used by Russia in the Security Council over the Syrian dossier since the start of the conflict in Syria in 2011.
